Joanna Rzezak Biography
Joanna Rzezak is an artist and illustrator living in Paris.
She was born in 1988 in Warsaw. In 2013 she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw with a diploma in Children book design and Editorial design. She is also an architect, a graduate from Warsaw University of Technology in 2015.
Today, she considers herself a multidisciplinary artist working on painting, illustration, design and children book projects. In her work she likes to juggle between various techniques as aquarelle, gouache, pencil, ink and digital.
Since 2013 she collaborated with designers, architects and editors (French and foreign). She worked for design studios, set design offices, architects offices prior to launching her fully freelance artist activity in 2016.
She writes and illustrates children books.
Her books were published internationally: in France, USA, UK, China, Corea, Poland, Italy, Denmark, Turkey and Spain. In her books she puts a special interest in a relation between nature and human realities.
She won numerous awards and scholarships: a Bologna ragazzi Opera Prima (in 2014),
Poland’s Ministry of Culture scholarship prize for artistic achievements (2016), a 2nd place at the Adobe 2013 Poster Competition. In 2019 and in 2023 she obtained a French Ministry of Culture Scholarship for creating her book projects. She was selected among finalists in the CCBF China Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair Young Illustrators Competition in 2021.
She is a happy mum of two children. In her free time she loves to read, read and read. She also enjoys making things (lampshades, concrete tiles), paint, play the piano and swim.
