Alexis Rom Biography

My name is Alexis Rom and I am a graphic artist born and based in Barcelona.

My career is comprised of both commissioned works and personal ones, which enrich one another.

In the vast majority of cases I create my pieces using manual printing techniques, be it serigraphy, embossing or lithography. Every piece is personally printed by me and forms part of limited editions. Digital processes are purposefully avoided: I make my screen films by hand since this helps not to waste any physical composition space or lose the relation to the setting. Some prints are programmatic whilst others are freehand printed, which allows me to change the composition every time. Thus, this finally results in a series where each piece is unique, where each piece is the same.

My work is closely linked to the advertising and to the European commercial art dating from mid-to-late 20th century. Every creation is quite often accompanied by an imaginary story mixing reality and fiction and it is the result of the processes. I constantly try to find connections to life, prints with an unequivocal graphic trace of a place and moment in time.

I conceive my work as a personal language which enables me to open dialogues and build new bonds, to share my way of understanding the world and, perhaps, thus contribute to make it a better place.
